If the tide is really low you can continue walking from the caves at the east end of Doctors Point Beach to this lovely sheltered crescent of sand separated by a wee saddle from Purakaunui Beach. The Pa site itself is a lovely walk although there are high unguarded cliffs so be careful with children and dogs. At the top are great views out to sea. I once encountered two naked young young german travellers here who had gone there before dawn so they could watch the sun rise. They were very pleased to find their nudity so obviously accepted.
The arc of the beach and the pa site are in the background of this photo. Be careful swimming here as it has experienced rips.
